Here in West Midtown Atlanta, there are a TON of apartment complexes popping up on nearly every corner! When Brandon and I lived in the city, we had a small, narrow balcony and to tell the truth, I didn't really know how to give it life. Now that I'm older and much wiser, I know that all it really needed was a great foundation. A cute, little bistro set is a great way to immediately inject color and personality. In the spirit of dining outside, or even enjoying a good cocktail (or cup of coffee, it you're into that sort of thing) here are a few of my favorite bistro sets... and they're all under $200! Summer's not over yet, so why not enjoy the rest of the warm weather that mother nature has to offer via a new, super cute bistro set for dining alfresco? Here are a few would recommend!
My favorites have to be #6 and #10 because I love a good, strong statement. But take note that you don't necessarily need to commit to a bold color (although that's definitely my jam) in order to create a big impact. You can always go for a neutral set and infuse it with color to add a little personality.

They say that April showers bring May flowers. I really hope so because the constant rain in Georgia is getting a little cray. It's almost like a tease - sunny, beautiful 70 degree weather one day, then a dreary torrential downpour the next. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'm ready to welcome spring and all its glory (even if we have to endure the pollen). With that in mind, I've been thinking a lot about adding some life and color to our front porch. Our townhouse is part of a community, therefore I can't paint my door a fun hue, but what I can do is add personality to our little stoop. I would love to drop clues to visitors or any potential passerby of the vibrant interior that will ensue once they cross our threshold!
While I was searching for a doormat online to serve as a starting point for my refresh, I kept landing on Target's website. Their current selection of doormats are so spring-inspired and incredibly affordable, so I thought that a round-up was definitely in order!

Admit it, there's nothing that puts a smile on a guest's face quite like a cute doormat! And of course it gets even better because all of these mats are on sale right now (an additional 5-30% off until the weekend), so there really isn't a good excuse not to treat yo' self. Which one is your favorite? I'm really feeling the mixed berries, the geometric and the cactus mats! Anyhoo, I'm currently working on a scheme board for our porch to share right here so stay tuned! :)

Lately I've been seriously considering the addition of a plug-in sconce to our bedroom lighting ensemble. While we have two nice lamps on either side, it would be wonderful to add additional reading lights over the bed. Actually I've been dreaming about particular sconces since we stayed at the (now deceased) Viceroy hotel in Miami a few years ago. The room had a gorgeous bed flanked with large lamps on either side, but it also had thin, modern LED lights that peeked from behind the bed frame. See if you can spot them in the photo below.
With that inspiration in mind, I started thinking about how I could have the same look, but of course in a more affordable version. Sconces next to the bed have been rather trendy lately, but the cost can be pretty expensive. So while I was on the hunt, I decided to go ahead and pull together a round-up of my favorite plug-in sconces. Why plug-in? Well I like flexibility. What if I get tired of the solution and want to try something else? Or what if we decide to get a new (or larger) bed? Plus, having to get sconces installed permanently is such a drag, possibly cost-prohibitive, and not very renter friendly for those of you who don't currently own your place of residence. Anyhoo, here's what I came up with.

And People, don't forget your cord management! It is so important unless you have a sexy fabric- covered cord like #9. To make sure a cord stays on the straight and narrow, I like to use this adhesive paintable cord cover. And just in case you were still wondering, I'm totally digging #11 for our space. Most of these options can hold their own (without the addition of a lamp) but we've decided to keep our lamps because well... they're pretty. And I'm not a huge fan of overhead lighting (unless it's fabulous) but in our case a ceiling fan in the bedroom is a non-negotiable. Also, just for reference, here's a photo of our bedroom situation (it's an old photo, but we've only hung art over the bed since then.)
And a quick sketch of an idea never hurt anyone!

You know, a wonderful wish list full of things every chic girl would want. Marianne Trull is an incredibly gifted jewelry designer who creates one-of-a-kind bracelets and necklaces from semi-precious stones, beads, and gems. She also likes to incorporate vintage pieces into her designs for a unique piece that you simply can not find anywhere else. If you see something you like and you want to collaborate on a similar design, she also accepts custom orders made to fit. Check out more of her pieces in her Etsy shop Theevacollection.
For the chef
The ladies of French Silver Shop have quite the sense of humor! Lexi Schindler and Jennifer Schindler Hahn design and create beautiful flour sack tea towels and cotton onesies with the most clever sayings, or as they like to put it, "Comedy on Cotton". Each image is carefully designed then applied using a commercial heat press to unsure that you can enjoy it for many years to come. French Silver Shop also creates custom bags, invitations, cards, and favors. Basically, if you can press it, these ladies can make produce it! Check out more on their Etsy shop Frenchsilver.
For the creative
Kimberly Hawthorne, the designer behind Little Hawthorne Studio truly knows how to create products that make a girl smile! Kimberly focuses her creative prowess on colorful mousepads, adorable coasters, and wooden handmade earrings that add a bit of spice to some of the most basic parts of our lives. Her earrings are individually sanded and hand painted, and all coasters and mousepads are designed with a smooth fabric top layer and a thick rubber backing to ensure durability. Also, I can not say enough about the pattern play throughout her designs. Everything is so happy! Of course Kimberly takes custom orders in several colorways for many of her products. Not only because it speaks to my design aesthetic, but because no matter what's going on outside the store, whenever you step inside, you're immediately transported to a space where the colors are so amazing that you seriously can't help but smile. When I received their recent catalog in the mail, my mind went bonkers - so. much. color! It makes me excited for spring, AND makes me wanna spend some money. I visited them on Friday with one of my design divas (shout out to Keidre at 726) and did my best to resist the urge to spend my pennies. I really need to clear out some things at home before I add to the madness. And in case you didn't know, interior designers are predisposed to hoarding, and the struggle is real! Anyhoo, here are a few of my favorite pieces that are oh, so spring chic!

This runner would be a perfect contrast to our black brown table.
2. Hedgehog candle holder
We have a bird + dino tealight family who would love to meet this little guy.

This is just gorgeous, but I'm frugal, so I'd have to stalk this floor sample until the end of the season. I would love to try this paint treatment on a chest of drawers though. Maybe a Rast makeover?
5. Stinger, Marcher, Flutter appetizer plates
I've been collecting plates for this awesome plate wall that has yet to come to life. These would fit in perfectly.
6. Taurus coat hook
How cool are these? It's an immediate goal of mine to organize my closet. These would make dressing and undressing so much cooler.

In January I was approached with the incredible opportunity to design a space for Atlanta's most prestigious residential showcase for designers - The Atlanta Symphony's Decorators Show House and Gardens. This terrace level bonus room was presented to IKEA Atlanta, and my managers thought that it would be a great experience to further develop me as designer, project manager, and leader. And you know what, they could not have been more right! At 26, this experience has made my young career. To quote myself in a conversation with my manager Michael, this has been "the most challenging, frustrating, exhausting, amazing, and rewarding
project that I have ever been apart of! This was definitely an
opportunity of a lifetime."
Below are some before photos when we viewed the space for the very first time, as well as a few photos that are just a few finishing touches away from being complete. The planning took about Two-and-a-half months, the construction took about three weeks. The concept was to create a multifunctional space that blended our Swedish modern roots with the timeless, classic feeling of this 9-million-dollar mansion. We used an eclectic mix of products from our modern and traditional range, as well as a few real-life accessories from our very own homes to add depth.
Overall we wanted it to feel like a beautiful place where people could actually live. You know, step outside of the context of a show house, and let visitors know that YOU CAN ACTUALLY LIVE LIKE THIS! It's functional, beautiful, and affordable. Twenty thousand dollars won't just get you a new credenza or sofa like in the other rooms in this house, it can get you a brand new, fully-furnished space... a lifestyle. Did I mention you can buy it and take it all home with you today? So enough chatting. I know you wanna see the photos!

Of course my little photos barely do it justice! If you haven't had a chance to get out to the ASO Decorators Show House and Gardens, the last day is May 12th! The house is filled top to bottom with breath-taking architecture and gorgeous designs from some of Atlanta's most talented designers. All the proceeds help fund educational and community outreach programs for children and adults throughout the city. So get out there, support, and be inspired!
It's hard to believe that Valentine's day is just around the corner! Being in the V-day spirit, I though that I would start early and think up some cool things from my favorite stores that would make an awesome Valentine's package (or rather things that I would love to get on a special - or even not so special day). Oh and let's keep it under $50, cause I'm cheap like that. The first one is from Urban Outfitters (sale items of course).
I'm pretty sure any lovely lady would love to have this ensemble. The heart necklace is adorable, and long enough to add some edginess to any outfit. The bust is awesome to hold all those pretty trinkets that are too beautiful to put away. The wallet is pure diva - you can't go wrong with a dash of faux fur and leather! As for the doggie, I've been needing a USB splitter for some time. My external hard drive, wireless keyboard, and mouse are always connected, so there must be other peeps out there like me! And finally, the rhinestone necklace is just plain classy. Any thoughts?

Traveling inspires us, opens up our eyes to new cultures and experiences, and often if we're lucky, we get to bring a little bit home with us to preserve the memory. One of the coolest trends going on right now is map (a.k.a cartography) art. There's just something about showing off where you've been, or would like to go that really resonate with the human spirit. And not only is map art beautiful, it's also a wonderful conversation starter. I've selected some of the coolest budget-friendly pieces I could find to show you exactly what I mean!
It Won't be Longitude Print Set- $24.00 (20"x28")
This set sold exclusively by Modcloth is a great option for colorful cartography prints without the huge price tag. These pieces can easily be framed (sets in odd numbers always read more interesting to the eye) and made a focal point. Here's a closeup.

Also, never forget about the versatility of maps, if you have a map large enough and would like to create more interest, carefully cut them down into equal portions (using the paper that comes with your frame as a template) an even large piece of artwork. Like this example below.

I thought that since I'm always looking for a cheap thrill, I would pick a category, a dollar amount and go with it - finding "cheap chic" things for those of us who really appreciate a small price tag. Today, I'll be focusing on side tables under $35 because I'm currently on the look out for side tables in our bedroom (goodbye lack tables) and the sunroom. All of today's cheap chic are currently on clearance on Walmart.com.

I think these nesting tables are adorable, and a little reminiscent of Elieen Gray, no? The fact that they come as a pair for only $28.00 in black, and $32.00 in white is only icing on the cake.
These little babies remind me of the Hemnes side table that I couldn't get my hands on before it was discontinued (sad face). Good thing Wally World has something comparable. For $25, this little baby in white or black is so charming! What can I say? You know I'm a sucker for sexy legs. Also, let me add that these scalloped end tables have a 5-star rating. Pretty impressive, huh?

The side table version is adorable too. They come in either white, purple, or orange. I wouldn't use them in the same room with the coffee table because it would read a little matchy matchy for my blood, but alone, X marks the spot, plus they're only $30 for the pair. I actually like the thought of white ones on either side of our bed. Hmmmm...
Last, certainly but not least is the multifunctional tray table. Magazine rack or table? You decide. I just like it. And it's only $15. Excuse me, we knew that Walmart was cheap, but when in the world did it become so chic? Go ahead and get one - oh yeah, and use that free site to store shipping while you're at it.
