I work, you work, we work. Let's face it, we all work somewhere. Some of us work in an office, in our bedrooms, in a cave, in a cube, but we all need a place to land and organize ourselves. Luckily, my full-time job is away from home, but I do have a dedicated workspace for paying bills, writing blog posts, poking around on Pinterest, you know... a place to take care of important things and be creative.
Inspired by the offices at WeWork, a co-working company that provides collaborative work spaces for creative entrepreneurs and start-ups, I decided to share my little office space with the inter web. While my space is at home here in Atlanta, We Work offers workspace in many major cities all over the country and abroad. The short story is if you're on the cusp of starting your own biz, or you're pretty established but in need of more space, community, benefits, and services, WeWork is pretty much your jam!
Ever wonder where my blogging magic happens? Well, today I give you a small peek into my side of our second bedroom (which we use as our "office / storage / my husband's closet overflow / everything that doesn't fit in other parts of the apartment end up here" room). I try my best to keep all of the miscellaneous stuff-age at bay, but to be truthful, it's not an easy task. We live in a small space, and if you couple that idea with the fact that I am a home furnishings hoarder (think chairs, lanterns, accessories, Goodwill artwork) with the fact that I married a wonderful man who collects various technology, comics, anime, and loot crates, then what you end up with is too many interests, and not enough room to thoroughly express them all at the same time. It's sad, but so, so true.
But anywhoo, what I have for you today is a rare look at my side of the office. Nothing particularly special or glossy-magazine worthy, but it's mine all the same.
As you can see, we're still rocking the Karlstad chaise. It's great for kicking back and reading a magazine, or piling your unfolded clothes on top of - whichever you need at the time.
On top of my Expedit is where I store the majority of my school books. They're great references and I could never, ever see parting with them.
Here's where I attempt to keep myself minimally organized. I soooo wish I gotten a white desk. Black brown is soooo over, feels so heavy, and produces dust faster than you sneeze.
I scored this succulent garden from Kroger last week for under six dollars! Yes, I'm trying succulents again. No, I don't plan to kill them this time. My strategy this go-around is to just leave it alone and should it ever scream out for help give it a nice, but stingy mist.
I found a set of Futurama post cards in a random pile of my hubby's things and thought this one was particularly hilarious.
I love when the leaves change a bright red. I think fall is when mother nature looks her most beautiful.
And it just so happens that I have a nice, little view from the sixth floor. I mean, who could complain about that?
So there you have it folks! When I'm home, you can find me either here or chillin' on our movie sofa.
Not too bad, but could be much better! What do you think? :)

So for those who don't know, the month of August was pretty tough for me. Too much stress on my body (in particular my right foot) gave me an unfortunate case of tendonitis. Because of the severity of my condition, I was immediately given a cortisone shot, placed in a huge "moon boot" for 3 weeks, and sentenced to office duty. I say "sentenced" simply because my job is very physical, and while there is a nice amount of office work involved, a huge part of it is physical implementation.
To say the least, I was very, very bummed about it... and borderline pitiful. Thanks to the grace of God there were quite a few projects in the store that needed to be planned, which allowed me to focus my full attention on creating the best solutions possible. Three weeks in the boot, two weeks in an ankle brace, and five weeks of physical therapy later and I'm doing pretty well. I still have the occasional shoots of pain, but I'm happy to report that I'm almost back to myself, and happily back on the floor implementing projects. First up was the IFS office (A.K.A the IKEA Food Services office).
The challenge:
- Maximize the function of a tiny office space to include storage for 5 food service team-leads (otherwise known as assistant managers in IKEA speak) and organize the workspace so that it may be used by at least 4 of those team leads simultaneously.
- Incorporate all necessary IT and safety equipment into the design
- Infuse the space with our Swedish Modern identity
Did I mention how incredibly tiny this office is? Keeping that in mind, I decided to place all the workstations and individual storage on one wall, and shared storage on the opposite wall.
This is my third and final version which incorporates Numerar countertop, Sjunne legs, an Alex drawer unit, and 5 Expedit 2x2 cubes above the workspace. I also ended up taking the countertop wall-to-wall instead of leaving 9" gaps on the end (which were originally going to be for folded step stools but I found another place for it).
Below are the elevations. Click on the image to make it larger. Oh, and do you like my girl? I named her "Long Hair Don't Care" because she always looks totally disinterested at whatever is going on.
After the technical aspect was nailed down, I started to focus my attention on color. I was totally inspired by our Hallenknopp fabric for the color scheme. It's bold, bright, and a little silly. For the wall color, I wanted to take a big risk and go with Citron by Benjamin Moore.
After I nailed down my inspiration, I put together a scheme board to get a feel for how the room would come together. Some finishes and products weren't used, but it definitely helped me get my ideas in order.
Now for what you came for - the before and after photos!
The huge storage wall (which consisted of items that mostly needed to be purged) was dispersed on the wall with the opening and split up between 3 Galant storage units. The file unit is down below.
I wanted to come up with a good way to blend the necessary safety equipment without compromising style, so I decided collages were the way to go. Also, check out the light sources. Now they have overhead florescent (which came with the office), Gruntal halogen accent lighting above each individual Expedit unit, and Jansjo LED task lighting.
It's amazing what a little organization can do.
While we left the surveillance camera in the corner, truth be told there isn't much of a need for it anymore. We actually had the safe in the room relocated to make more room for much-needed storage.
As you can see, this is totally real life! The team leads couldn't wait another minute to start using the space which is evident the new magnetic boards.
Notice how having desks back-to-back in the this space simply wasn't working. I also down-sized the chairs so that they wouldn't overwhelm the space.
Now this corner feels cozy without feeling super cramped.
On the other wall I used a lockable Galant roll-front storage unit with an extension top for binders. Below the second window is lockable Galant sliding door unit for extra restaurant equipment.
These pieces really fit the space like a glove.
This was another instance where a simple collage did the trick. Also, see the small, white circle? It's an on-off switch for the Grundtal lighting. I'm still in awe that we have that in the range now!
And just for the heck of it, here's a before and after panoramic view.
I still can't believe the transformation!
And for customers waiting in line at the restaurant here's what you can see from the window:

I was in such a rush towards the end that I had to go back the next week and put finials on the curtain rods. :) Big shout out to Michael for painting the office and all his amazing support and encouragement throughout this entire process. Also a big thanks to Hugo for all of his flawless carpentry execution, and De'Airra for helping me with the initial implementation! Oh, and thanks to the IFS team for baring with the process while being displaced for two weeks. Hopefully we made it worth your while!

Our little office space is slowly coming together! A while back I purchased a light fixture from Highland Row Antiques that I simply couldn't pass up because the color story was so perfect! But before I show you how it turned out, allow me to introduce you to the real star of this show - my little Raskog cart.
This little cart has been coveted by people all over the country who have seen it everywhere on the web, the IKEA catalog, and beyond. But alas ... the issue of limited stock has reared its ugly head, and disappointed many. How did I get it? No magic involved. I got the very last one off the shelf after stalking it for months (back in June). The moral of the story? Be aggressive. B-E aggressive! In other news, here's how I dressed her up!
I borrowed some stuff from our Billy Jader to see exactly what Raskog was capable of.
From left to right:
- Ice bucket - Crate and Barrel
- My special wine glass that I use for parties (it has rings of color so that I don't have to use a wine glass marker)
- Michael Graves bar set from Target
- Lambee - I gave him to Brandon when we were dating
- Martini recipe glass set - a wedding gift from my maid of honor
- Martini shaker - CB2
- Margarita glasses - Pier 1
- Wine decanter - a wedding gift from a family friend
- Small drink glasses - CB2
- Cloth napkins - Target
And here she is making her office debut.
And in case you were wondering how our vintage the light is suspended, I used an old-school lime green Hemma cord kit. I'm hoping to flatten that cord out eventually. I'm not totally sure if the bar accessories will stay on the cart though. I may end up loading it up with books or miscellaneous items down the road. Initially, I wanted the cart to store my sewing machine and fabrics. That idea went out the window with the curtains I never finished (no pun intended). I'll have you know that I hung them anyway - they're just missing a hem. Maybe I'll get super bored (and super patient) and finish them so that I can share. :) Anyhoo, what do you think of our cute, little office nook?

How beautiful are these Janette curtains? They definitely make the room!
Closeup for detail oriented. And yes that's a Macroeconomics book in the background. Don't hate.
And as for the pieces on the P.S. cabinet in center meet Bamboo II. Bamboo I died (rest his soul) when I was in college. My mommy didn't water him regularly during my internship. This was a make up gift :) We love him. Yellow tips and all. Let's call it a french manicure. I made Brandon responsible for his well-being for because he lives next to his desk.
And because people always wanna know about the vast assortment of books that one accumulates.
My flowers that seem to last forever. These puppies have been going strong for 3 weeks. Yeah strange, I know. Oh, and "boys are stupid, throw rocks at them." That is all.
Oh, and here's my grandmother's chair with my old school peacock feather pillow and the green pillow I kept from my pillow swap. I'm slowly pulling it all together! Stay tuned!
