making a happy holiday

It's our first Christmas as husband and wife and I couldn't be more excited! We went Christmas tree shopping and decided on a black pre-lit tree from Target! Now I know you're thinking, Rae, that sounds a little crazy, but you know us, we like to break the mold on a regular basis. Staying the with color scheme of the apartment - jewel tones, we wanted something chic and unexpected!  Here's a peek!

Please ignore the bookcase (settling in is such a slow and painful process).
But here is the tree in our sunroom (perhaps the last room in our apartment to get some love).

Check out our ornaments. I swear I was like a kid in a candy store.
I managed to find a perfect box of assorted ornaments for only $15.

We need to get an extension cord, but I think it turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself!
We got the star from Target and the tree skirt from Walmart, but it call came together so well.

It's amazing how different things appear without my crazy flash!
I hope you guys like it! I have some more holiday decorating treats coming up, so stay tuned!

sektion launch

Hey Folks! On February 2, 2015 IKEA launched its brand new kitchen range called Sektion. Almost a year prior to the launch, I was chosen as the interior designer to represent our Atlanta store at the US Service Office. Along with Kim, our Sektion sales leader, and Erin, our Visual Merchandising planner, we created a beautiful department that kitchen dreams are made of.  Here we are below sitting on the famous concrete Klippan sofa. These ladies were amazing to work with!

While there, I collaborated with Common Store Planning to create the layout of each kitchen in our store. When I came back home, I had about 5 weeks to and create all of the IKEA roomsetting documentation, as well as all of the official installation drawings and contract documents for city permitting. Fast forward a year later and there are 19 new kitchens in our store! Wanna see? Here are the ones in the kitchens and dining department.

dining with a docksta

So I have been totally debating whether or not I need this table in my life. Sure it's "an interpretation" of one of the most recognized tables in history, but at $149 can you really justify not having some Saarinen worship in your home?

With that being said, I asked some advice from my dining expert Eddie at work, and he told me the structural integrity of a table that comes in parts is only sound as the person who spends the time to construct it. In other words, no wobble worries if you do it right! I think the Docksta would be a great starter table. Let's see how people make this simple little "nod to greatness" look adorable.

I love the idea of some fresh pillows in the dining chairs. You can change them out seasonally. A chic lighting fixture would give the table some sparkle too.

Ha! There goes that Stockholm Rand (which I am still loving by the way).  The chair legs blend in so well with the rug, that you can't help but notice the table base.

My Summer Bucket List

Hey Guys! Happy summer! Question... do you remember when the anticipation of summer was heavily tied to a three-month vacation between grades in school? I was reminiscing about this the other day with a friend, and I realized that "grown" people typically only look forward to summer for the warm weather and perhaps a good trip to the beach before Labor Day weekend is over. For myself, I'm afraid, summer is now only a season... nothing in particular to look forward to besides the same or similar daily grind in which I partake during any other season. BUT I thought that for this summer I might find something to lift my spirits a bit, you know, something a little more inspirational. I wanted to make sure that I not only enjoyed my summer, but also challenged myself to step a bit outside of my daily grownup monotony. That's when I decided to try a Summer Bucket List!

So for those who don't know, I'm an avid list maker. I find that making lists for items that are…
